No Cold Wave For Now In North India, Heavy Rainfall Expected In Kerala, TN: IMD
IMD scientist Soma Sen said there was no such criterion for a cold wave in northern parts of India.
There is no such criterion for a cold wave in North India right now as temperatures drop gradually with the year coming to a close, said the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday. IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI that a western disturbance is likely to come around Thursday, November 23.
She said that due to the western disturbance, some clouding has been forecast over Northwest India around November 24–25 with the weather being mild.
A deep Easterly wave over peninsular India is expected to bring heavy showers in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, she added.
"...Currently, we have a very weak western disturbance... This is gradually moving eastward... There is a fresh western disturbance likely to come around November 23... We shall expect some clouding over Northwest India around November 24–25,” Sen said.

“The weather will be mild... We shall expect not much change in the maximum and minimum temperature... A deep Easterly wave is over peninsular India... Because of this, we are expecting very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala... This weather is likely to continue for the next two days... Afterwards, rainfall will decrease,” she said.
On possibility of a cold wave in the country, Sen said that there was no such criterion adding that significant drop in temperature is also not expected.

“There is no such criterion for a cold wave right now... We are not expecting any significant drop in minimum temperatures... In North India, mainly after November 23, we are expecting some cloudiness in the sky,” said the IMD scientist.
“There may be a one-degree rise or fall in temperature... Some light snowfall can happen around November 24 over the upper reaches of the western Himalayan region," Sen said.
