NCP President Pawar Criticises Centre For Misusing Probe To 'Destabilise' Non-BJP Govt: Report

Pawar further adds that he will soon meet the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the expansion of the Border Security Force’s jurisdiction.

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Saturday criticised the Union Government for misusing the probe to "destabilise" the Non-BJP states, reported Hindustan Times.

“Investigative agencies like CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), ED (Enforcement Directorate), I-T (Income Tax department), NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) are being misused. The Centre is trying to destabilise non-BJP governed states,” the veteran leader was quoted by HT in its report.

Showing up confidence in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government, Pawar further adds that the MVA coalition government will complete its five-year term and will again come back to power in the next legislative assembly elections.

Recently, former Maharashtra CM and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said took a dig at the incumbent Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray saying that "he had the ambition to be the CM" and that the MVA coalition government was formed through dishonesty. In response to this, Pawar while addressing a press conference in Pune said that Uddhav Thackeray was reluctant to become the Chief Minister, but he convinced him.

“Thackeray was reluctant for the post and had conveyed it to me. A few other names were discussed for the post as well, but I asked him to take up the responsibility. It is not proper to say that Thackeray was eyeing the post,” Pawar was further quoted by HT in its report.

Pawar further adds that he will soon meet the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the expansion of the Border Security Force’s jurisdiction.

Recently, the central government had amended the existing BSF Act. Now, the force is authorised to conduct the search and arrest within a larger 50 km stretch, instead of the existing 15 km, from the international border in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam, which in turn has triggered protests in the states of Punjab and West Bengal.
