Mumbai: Maharashtra's capital city on Monday crossed the 1,000-mark in the total fatalities caused by Coronavirus infection.

This has happened exactly 65 days after Mumbai recorded its first Covid-19 death. On Monday, 38 people succumbed to Coronavirus, taking the death toll to 1,026.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has recorded more than 40,000 cases, health officials informed.

The latest statistics do not provide any relief when it comes to the Coronavirus situation in Maharashtra which continues to be the worst-hit by the pandemic in comparison to other states in India.

Overall, Maharashtra witnessed 60 Covid-19 deaths on Monday and with 2,436 new cases, the total number rose to 52,667. Out of the tally that is over 52,000, 35,178 are active cases.

This comes to roughly one death every 24 minutes, and an average of 102 new cases recorded every hour in the state on Monday.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's Dharavi slum continues to be a major coronavirus hotspot. On Monday, 42 new cases were reported with the total tally of Covid infections in the area rising to 1,583 and 59 deaths reported to date.
