Mumbai Rains: One dead, 39 rescued after being stranded for hours in Vasai
40 people had gone for a picnic in Mumbai’s Vasai, where at the Chinchoti falls the water level ascended significantly due to a sudden downpour.
New Delhi: In yet another manifestation of the havoc wreaked by the heavy downpour that has been lashing Mumbai, one out of 40 picnickers at Chinchoti falls in Maharashtra, died as the water level rose dangerously.
After rescue operation that continued for hours, the other stranded people were saved.
The 40 people had gone for a picnic in Mumbai’s Vasai, where at the Chinchoti falls the water level ascended significantly due to a sudden downpour.
With the help from NDRF and air force, the people trapped in water could be saved. 5 were saved from helicopters and 34 others were rescued with the help of a rope.
Police identified the deceased as Bhavesh Gupta (35) and added that most of the people who had visited the site were from northern Mumbai suburbs like Kandivali, Borivali and Malad besides Santacruz.
The waterfall, a popular destination among tourists during the monsoon, is situated in Tungareshwar forest, over 70 kilometres from here.
