'Multipurpose Octocopter': Army Havildar Gets Honoured By Prez Murmu For Developing Innovative Drone

Singh's development of a 'Multipurpose Octocopter', a versatile drone, has garnered attention and acclaim from military officials, news agency ANI reported citing officials.

The 'Multipurpose Octocopter' offers a wide range of functionalities, making it a valuable asset for various military operations. Capable of conducting surveillance missions, the drone goes beyond conventional roles by facilitating tasks such as grenade deployment, engaging aerial targets with firearms like the AK-47, and supporting logistics operations, according to ANI's report.

Singh, expressing his perspective on the significance of the drone, stated, "This is also a weapon drone, with the help of a four-hand grenade MGM rifle, the enemy can be killed with pinpoint accuracy, which will prove to be a boon for the Indian Army."

'Multipurpose Octocopter' Can Be Used For Tasks Like Dropping Grenades, Aerial Engagement Of Targets

According to ANI, Indian Army officials highlighted Singh's achievement, stating, "Havildar Varinder Singh from the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army has developed a 'Multipurpose Octocopter' which can not only undertake surveillance operations but can also be used for other tasks like dropping of grenades, aerial engagement of targets by firing weapons like AK-47, and logistics operations."

The Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), awarded to Singh, holds significant prestige within the Indian Armed Forces. Instituted on January 26, 1960, the VSM is bestowed upon personnel for "distinguished service of a high order." Crafted from bronze, the medal features a golden ribbon adorned with three dark blue stripes. Originally named VSM Class-III, it was renamed on January 27, 1967, as VSM, with provisions for posthumous conferral.
