IMD Issues Orange Alert For Konkan District As Monsoon Reaches Maharashtra

As the monsoon makes it across Maharashtra, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the Konkan district which will see heavy rainfall in the next 2-3 days.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Konkan district as the monsoon makes its way across the state. The alert is issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall. According to the department, the Monsoon has entered Maharashtra and likely to cover the whole state by June 15. "The monsoon has reached Solapur today via Goa. An orange alert has been issued in the Konkan district. Whereas Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are expected to get widespread rain and heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 2-3 days," said Anupam Kashyapi, Head of the Weather Department, IMD Pune in a report by ANI. He also added,” from tomorrow onwards heavy rainfall is expected in the ghat areas of Pune. Monsoon is expected to cover the state by June 15.” Also Read | Coronavirus: Grim Milestones! India Now 4th Worst-Hit Nation; Nearly 11K Fresh cases, 400 Deaths In A Day The monsoon arrived in Maharashtra on Thursday and areas in the coastal district Sindhudurg such as Amboli, Vengurla, and neighbouring areas received heavy rainfall. The IMD on Thursday said that heavy rainfall is expected in Marathwada and central Maharashtra in the next 4-5 days. The department has also said that there are favourable conditions for the advancement of Southwest Monsoon "Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, Goa, some parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka and Rayalaseema, remaining parts of Tamilnadu, some parts of Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Central and North Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the next 48 hours,” said KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director-General in a  report by ANI.
