Money Laundering Case: Satyendar Jain's ED Custody Extended Till June 13

On the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) motion for his continued custody, Special Judge Geetanjli Goel extended Jain's custody till June 13.

New Delhi: In the money laundering case, a Delhi court on Thursday extended Enforcement Directorate custody of Delhi minister Satyendar Jain till June 13, news agency PTI reported.

On the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) motion for his continued custody, Special Judge Geetanjli Goel extended Jain's custody till June 13.

Jain was held by the ED in connection with an alleged money laundering scheme. He was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act's criminal provisions (PMLA).

The investigation agency claimed it raided Jain and his colleagues, including a jewellery store, and recovered 2.8 crore in cash and 133 gold coins. Delhi inspected at least six or seven places, including the minister's apartment and a jewellery business in South East Delhi.

According to the ED, investigations revealed that one member of the Lala Sher Singh Jivan Vigyan Trust submitted accomodation entries for the transfer of land from Jain's firm to family members to alienate the property and thwart the seizure procedure.

ED Has Nothing Against Jain: AAP

The AAP said on Wednesday that the Centre is using the ED against Satyendar Jain simply to harass and malign him, and that the BJP-led government would finally have to bite the dust because the investigative agency has found no evidence against the Delhi minister.

Sanjay Singh, an AAP Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson, slammed the Enforcement Directorate over its action against Jain, calling it a "puppet" of the Narendra Modi government and alleging that the probe agency appears to be operating from the BJP office, while responding to questions at a press conference.

"The ED found nothing at Satyendar Jain's residence but it was spread that crores of rupees and valuables were seized. The agency is acting at the behest of the BJP only to harass and defame Satyendar Jain under a conspiracy. But, they will not succeed. The entire drama will be over soon," Singh was quoted by PTI in its report.

BJP Slams Delhi CM Kejriwal Over Jain Case

The BJP continued its attacks on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, asking him whether he will continue to defend Satyendar Jain's innocence even after the Enforcement Directorate seized over Rs 2.85 crore in cash and 133 gold coins, PTI reported.

Smriti Irani, a Union minister, slammed the Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor for defending her ministerial colleague despite his detention by the ED in a money laundering case.

She inquired if Kejriwal still believes Jain is innocent.
