Modi Govt To Raise Rs 6 Lakh Crore By Selling Stakes Of Public Sector Assets Under NMP

Nirmala Sitharaman said the ownership of the property will remain with the government and it will be mandatory to return their control after a certain time.

New Delhi: Government properties are going to be privatized on a large scale in the country. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a Rs 6 lakh crore National Monetization Pipeline (NMP). Under NMP, monetization of passenger trains, railway stations to airports, roads, and stadiums are included. The government says that resources will be mobilized and properties will be developed by involving private companies in these infrastructure sectors. Find out how much stake the government is selling in 13 properties including highways, railways, and telecom.

In fact, under the NMP, investment possibilities of six lakh crore rupees are estimated through the main assets of the central government in four years from the financial year 2022 to the financial year 2025.

All these properties will continue to be owned by the government: FM

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "The properties which are already in NMP, need to be better monetized. Ownership of the property will remain with the government and it will be mandatory to return their control after a certain time. Therefore, there should be no ambiguity that the government is selling anything." This is not the case. These are existing assets, which will continue to be owned by the government.

More than half of the scheme is connected to Roads and Railways
