New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday designated the  Jaish-e-Mohammed member Mohiuddin Aurangzeb who was involved in the Pulwama attack, as a Terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967.

The information was shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs via a notification on April 11. In its notification, the MHA said that Aurangzeb "is involved in anti-India activities, attacks on forces, fund collection for terrorism."

Pulwama attack took place on February 14, 2019, on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. In this attack, 40 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed.

On February 14, a convoy carrying CRPF personnel was attacked by a local suicide bomber that killed 40 security personnel along with the bomber who was later identified as Adil Ahmad Dar from Pulwama district of Kashmir.

The responsibility for the attack was later taken by Jaish-e-Mohammad. The attack led to the Balakot airstrike from the Indian side on February 26, 2019. The Indian side claimed that they dropped bombs on and destroyed JeM camps. The claim was denied by Pakistani authorities.

Prior to Monday’s notification, the MHA had also designated Hafiz Talha Saeed, son of Hafiz Mohammad Saeed a terrorist under UAPA on April 8.

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed is the founder of the terror organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba. He was also the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008.

The UAPA law was amended in 2019, after which as many as 32 people have been designated as terrorists under the law. Hafiz Mohammad Saeed was the first person to be notified as a terrorist under this law.
