Manish Sisodia To Launch AAP’s ‘UP Mission 2022’ In Lucknow For Assembly Elections

After the party faced a thrashing defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Sisodia is one of the first high-profile AAP leaders to visit Uttar Pradesh.

In order to launch the election campaign for the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls that are due to be held in 2022, Delhi deputy chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia will be visiting Lucknow on Tuesday. Volunteers of AAP, ahead of the visit of the deputy CM on Monday, started posting pictures allegedly of dilapidated buildings of UP government schools with the hashtag ‘Selfie with Sarkari School’ from across the state. After Arvind Kejriwal led AAP has announced to contest the UP-assembly elections, there has been a war of words between AAP leaders and BJP ministers on the issue of the Kejriwal model versus Yogi Adityanath’s “good governance”, with emphasis on government schools and healthcare sector. The tweets were also tagged to the chief minister. The state legislative assembly of UP which is currently dominated by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), is the largest assembly in the country. In the 403-seat assembly, BJP currently has 324 seats, while the Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party is the second-largest party in the state with 49 seats. Meanwhile, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has 18 seats and Congress has seven seats in the state. In the last assembly elections that were held in 2017, the Akhilesh Yadav-led government was ousted by the BJP. Meanwhile, the AAP which has 62 seats in the 70-seat Delhi Legislative Assembly, also sits in the opposition in the Punjab assembly with 19 seats.
