Manipur: Member Of Banned Kangleipak Communist Party Arrested In Kakching District

Kangleipak Communist Party was involved in extortion and placed grenades at the residences of several individuals.

A member of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) was nabbed from Manipur’s Kakching district.

According to a PTI report, the 42-year-old has been identified as Mayengbam Momocha Meitei and was apprehended from Bijoypur Mathak Leikai area on Thursday. Kangleipak Communist Party was involved in extortion and placed grenades at the residences of several individuals.

Last year in December, eight cadres of the outfit were arrested from the same district in connection with the killing of two migrant labourers from Bihar. On Friday, security forces recovered six firearms and ammunition in a separate operation in Churachandpur district. The arms and ammunition were recovered from the Saiboh village forest area in Churachandpur.

Security forces carried out search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. Enhanced security measures have been implemented in sensitive locations, with convoys ensuring the safe movement of vehicles.

A total of 107 checkpoints have been set up across Manipur in both hill and valley areas. More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence in the northeastern state since May last year.

Earlier in December, security forces busted the camps of two banned militant organizations while conducting search operations in Manipur’s Imphal East district. A hideout of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) at Makou Pourabi in Imphal East district was busted in December 18 during which one air gun, one mobile handset, and one bulletproof helmet were seized.

Police arrested nine cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) (KCP (PWG)) for extortion over the last two days. A training camp of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) at Makou Pourabi was destroyed, with an INSAS LMG magazine, a bayonet, five wooden dummy guns, two walkie-talkies, and cartridges seized.

On that day police also arrested two members of KCP (PWG) who were involved in extortion activities from Mantripukhri bazaar in Imphal East district and recovered demand letters and cash receipt notes of the outfit from their possession. Police arrested a KCP (PWG) cadre involved in extortion activity in the Tangkhul Avenue area of Imphal West district.
