Mamata Banerjee attacks BJP as she ends three-day long sit-in; to hold next ‘dharna’ in Delhi
Speaking before ending her ‘dharna’, she alleged that the BJP is "blackmailing" people by using central agencies like the CBI against them and then getting them into the party fold.
New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called off her three-day fast on Tuesday evening, after the apex court ruled that Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar will not be arrested. The sit-in against the CBI's attempt to question Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar in connection with the chit fund scams, which was being staged in front of Metro Cinema the heart of Kolkata had entered its third day today. The Bengal CM , who is back to 'dharna politics' after years, said that she will stage her next sit-in at the national capital Delhi on Februray 13 and 14.
With the SC judgment, the prolonged feud between Mamata and the BJP reached a halt, as it ruled that Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar will not to appear before the CBI and "faithfully" cooperate into the investigation of cases arising out of the Saradha chit fund scam, while making it clear that he will not be arrested.
Hailing the judgment as "positive", Bengal CM called off her 'Save The Constitution' dharna. Speaking before ending her ‘dharna’, she alleged that the BJP is "blackmailing" people by using central agencies like the CBI against them and then getting them into the party fold.
She said she holds "great respect" for the central probe agency but urged it to speed up its probe into theft of the Nobel medal of Rabindranath Tagore with the same alacrity with which, she alleged, the agency executes the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
She said once the people who are being blackmailed by the BJP join the saffron party, the cases lodged against them by the central agencies are dismissed. "Once you join the BJP, then there will be no cases. There will be no CBI, no ED, no I-T (Income Tax Department) against you," she said.
She alleged that political vendetta is working behind the CBI going slow on its investigations into the Tapasi Malik's death at Singur and into the Nandigram killings.
She also drew attention towards the Nobel medal of Tagore has been stolen. She said the CBI is yet to give us any result. The Nobel medal was stolen from Shantiniketan in 2004 and is yet to be recovered.
Responding on allegations that UP CM Yogi Adityanath was denied permission to land his helicopter for two rallies at Raigunj and Balurghat in West Bengal on Sunday, she said the BJP seeks permissions for holding rallies and public meetings at the eleventh hour which do not give much time to the administration.
The Central Bureau of Investigation which alleged that Kolkata top cop Rajeev Kumar has destroyed evidence pertaining to the Saradha chit fund scam, had filed a plea in the Supreme Court on Monday.
