Mamata Banerjee 'Attack' Case: The Chief Secretary has been asked to provide information by Saturday evening.

Kolkata: The Chief Secretary of West Bengal has submitted a report to the Election Commission on Friday regarding the alleged attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The report sent by West Bengal government to the Election Commission does not mention the claim of attack by four-five people, an official of the State CEO's office revealed. However, the presence of a large crowd at the scene has been mentioned in the report.

The report stated that no clear footage of the spot where the incident took place is available. CM Mamata Banerjee was injured in Birulia Bazar in East Medinipur district on March 10 during campaigning after filing nomination papers for the Nandigram seat. She had alleged that she was injured after being manhandled by "four-five" people.

"It is not possible to come to any conclusion"

A senior district administration official told news agency PTI, "The only CCTV in the area which was in a shop was not working. Even the versions of the locals, considered to be eyewitnesses of the incident, was mixed. So reaching a conclusion is not possible".

The EC asked for more information

After filing nomination papers for the Nandigram constituency on Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee complained about the alleged attack during the election campaign. After the incident, the Election Commission had asked Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay, Special Supervisor Ajay Nayak, and Special Police Supervisor Vivek Dubey to submit the report by Friday evening.

According to sources, the Chief Secretary was then asked to provide information by Saturday evening as the report was not comprehensive enough. Since the two observers were travelling on Friday, they sought time till Saturday evening to submit their report.
