'Won't Happen, They Were Suspended Illegally': Mallikarjun Kharge On Apology By 12 Rajya Sabha MPs

Kharge, along with the other Opposition MPs, raised slogans at the Gandhi monument in Parliament premises, demanding that the MPs' suspension be lifted.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha continued to witness ruckus by the Opposition over the suspension of 12 MPs on Monday even as Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge ruled out an apology by the members.

Mallikarjun Kharge said he had asked the Rajya Sabha chairman to revoke the suspension of the 12 MPs of the House, ANI reported.

"We met the Chairman and asked him to revoke the suspension of the 12 MPs of the House so that they too could be a part of the discussions and the House function properly. We will discuss and debate on all issues and cooperate with each other," Kharge said.

Mallikarjun Kharge further said that the 12 MPs were suspended illegally.

"That talk didn't go through, a piece of advice was put forth that either all of them apologise or at least the LoP say that what happened was not right and they are seeking an apology. We said it's not right and it won't happen as they were suspended illegally," Kharge said.

Kharge, along with the other Opposition MPs, raised slogans at the Gandhi monument in Parliament premises, demanding that the MPs' suspension be lifted.

Suspension Of 12 MP's From Rajya Sabha

For their "unruly" behaviour in the Monsoon session on August, 12 Rajya Sabha MPs – six from the Congress, two each from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was suspended last Monday for the Winter Session of Parliament.

The suspension has been described as "undemocratic and in breach of all the Rules of Procedure" of the Rajya Sabha by the Opposition.
