Majority of fake new notes seized from Gujarat

New Delhi: Over 90 per cent of fake new currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denomination seized were from Gujarat, the Centre told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Fake new notes with a face value of Rs 6.2 crore have been seized across the country since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation on November 8. He had said that one of the reasons to scrap the old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 was to stop the flow of fakes.
