It is important to note that Moitra was fielded again by the TMC and it became a highly anticipated contest as it became a battle between the former MP and BJP's candidate ‘Rajmata of the Rajbari’ Amrita Roy.

Moitra got global acclaim, on the back of her impassioned speeches in Parliament and despite her newcomer status and also established her as a formidable voice of dissent against the ruling establishment. Moitra's outspoken nature and willingness to challenge the status quo have often put her at odds with her own party leadership, the PTI report added.

As Moitra returns to Parliament with a resounding mandate, she does so with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

Since 2016, Moitra was the MLA of Karimpur assembly constituency and is the ex-TMC district president. Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year following a controversial cash-for-query case. The event was brief setback in her political journey. However, on Tuesday, she clinched a landslide victory in Krishnanager constituency.
