Maharashtra Polls: BJP’s First List Of Candidates Out; Fadnavis To Contest From Nagpur South West

Incumbent CM Devendra Fadnavis will contest from Nagpur South West, while BJP Maharashtra Chief Chandrakant Patil will contest from Kothrud. Pankaja Munde is fielded from Parli assembly seat.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Tuesday, released its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, a day after the alliance between BJP, Shiv Sena, and other allies was announced officially. BJP has released names of 125 candidates, party general secretary Arun Singh said. While, Shiv Sena would contest on 124 assembly seats. Incumbent CM Devendra Fadnavis will contest from Nagpur South West, while BJP Maharashtra Chief Chandrakant Patil will contest from Kothrud. Pankaja Munde is fielded from Parli assembly seat. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil who quit Congress and joined BJP recently  will contest from Shirdi, while Girish Mahajan, who is the minister of water resources, medical education and Irrigation, will contest from Jamner. Fadnavis, who has been projected as the Chief Ministerial face of the party, suffered a jolt from the Supreme Court as, it said that the CM will have to face trial for allegedly failing to furnish details of two pending criminal cases in his election affidavit in 2014. The last date of filing nomination papers in Maharashtra, as announced by the Election Commission (EC) is October 4, while the date for their scrutiny is October 5. Nominations can be withdrawn till October 7. Maharashtra has a total of 288 assembly seats. The Election Commission of India has announced single-phase voting for Maharashtra Assembly elections on October 21 and the counting of votes is scheduled on October 24.
