Omicron Threat: Maharashtra To Issue Fresh Covid Guidelines Ahead Of Christmas, New Year
Maharashtra reported 23 new cases of Covid-19 with Omicron variant on Thursday, which was highest in a single day so far. Total cases of Omicron in the state have risen to 88.
New Delhi: In view of rising cases of Covid-19 with Omicron variant, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office said that the state government will be issuing new guidelines ahead of Christmas and New Year. A statement by the CMO late last night stated that the guidelines will be issued on Friday.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held talks with the members of the state Covid-19 task force. During the meeting, ways to avoid crowds during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, weddings, and parties at hotels and restaurants were discussed.

The statement also contained that discussions were held regarding the restrictions imposed in other states and the increase in coronavirus cases in the US and Europe.
Maharashtra has already placed some restrictions to control the spread of infection. Section 144 has already been imposed in Mumbai till December 31.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in its earlier guidelines had stated that 50 percent occupancy will be allowed in closed spaces, whereas 25 percent of the capacity would be allowed in open spaces.
The guidelines also instructed the party organisers to get written permission from the authorities if more than 200 people would be invited to an event.

The State has been witnessing a sharp spike in daily numbers of Covid-19 this week. On Thursday 1,179 new cases were logged, a day after 1,201 infections were reported. 544 cases were registered on Monday which rose to 825 the next day.
