Night Curfew In UP From December 25 As Omicron Cases Rise — Check Full Guidelines

The Yogi Adityanath government has imposed a night curfew starting December 25.

New Delhi: In view of the rising cases of Omicron in various states of the country, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to impose a night curfew in the state starting from the day of Christmas, that is, December 25.

The night curfew will be imposed in the state from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders. It is pertinent to note that India's Omicron case tally has surpassed 350 and is likely to rise due to the festive celebrations ahead. In order to avoid gatherings which can be one of the reasons for Covid spread, the Yogi Adityanath government has said that not more than 200 people will be allowed in weddings till further notice.

India recorded 122 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, the highest so far, pushing its tally in the country to 358, 114 of which have either recovered or migrated, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The 358 Omicron Covid variant cases have been detected across 17 states and union territories so far, it showed.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of 88 cases of the Omicron variant, followed by Delhi with 67, Telangana 38, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 31, and Gujarat 30.

As the Omicron cases in India continue to surge, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday urged the central government to stop political rallies from being held in election-bound states.

A Bench of Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav said the number of patients infected with Omicron variant are increasing and there is a possibility of a third wave.

The much-awaited Uttar Pradesh assembly election is to be held early next year, all political parties are on a campaign spree to woo voters. Political parties are mobilising hundreds and thousands of people holding election rallies where it is difficult to maintain Covid protocols.
