Maharashtra CID To Probe Extortion Case Against Ex-Mumbai Top Cop Param Bir Singh

According to sources, all cases registered against Singh by the Thane Police could soon be handed over to the state’s CID for further investigation.

 

Mumbai: The tough times don’t seem to be ending for former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh as the extortion case registered against him will now be investigated by the state’s Crime Investigation Department (CID).

According to sources, all cases registered against Singh by the Thane Police could soon be handed over to the state’s CID for further investigation.

The Marine Drive Police had also registered a case of extortion against the former Mumbai Police Commissioner and other officials based on a complaint by businessman Shyam Sundar Agarwal. This case would also investigated by the CID from now.

The ex-Mumbai top cop has two extortion cases registered against him in Thane following the complaints made by builder Ketan Tanna and businessman Sharad Agarwal apart from the one case in Mumbai.

The Thane Police had earlier this month issued a lookout notice against Parambir Singh.

Earlier, a case of conspiracy, extortion, assault and robbery was registered against Singh and 27 others at the Thane Nagar police station, where the complainant Ketan Tanna alleged that they extorted money under the pretext of implicating him in a false case.

A lookout notice has been issued against all the 28 accused in the case.

Some of the accused in this case are already in jail. The lookout notice was issued so that the accused could not flee overseas.
