MP Crisis Highlights: Emotional Rahul Gandhi Says, 'Only Scindia Could Walk Into My House Anytime'

Background

New Delhi: A day after pushing the Kamal Nath government into a grave crisis with his sudden resignation along with 22 other MLAs, Jyotiraditya Scindia will now join the BJP at the party headquarters on Wednesday. The former Congress MP and Union Minister will join the BJP at 12.30 p.m. at the BJP headquarters in the presence of BJP National President J.P. Nadda.

On Tuesday, Scindia met former BJP President Amit Shah. The two later met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.
Following that meeting, Scindia released the letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi where he announced his exit. The resignation letter is dated March 9 (Monday).

Meanwhile, to safeguard their MLAs, both the Congress and the BJP have decided to guard their flock ahead of the crucial coming test of strength in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP organised four luxury coaches to take their MLAs to Delhi by a special flight late on Tuesday night. They were then lodged in a luxury hotel in Gurugram.

Remaining Congress MLAs also took off for an undisclosed location.

Scindia was reportedly upset after being sidelined in the state and preempting that Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh may have prevailed over interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi against sending him to the Upper House from Madhya Pradesh.

With the Congress struggling to save its government in Madhya Pradesh, which is on the brink of collapse after 20 MLAs close to Scindia reportedly put in their papers, the party has taken its flock of MLAs to Jaipur where senior leaders are assigned to keep them together.

Scindia earlier alleged that he had tried to reach out to Sonia Gandhi but could not do so. Rahul Gandhi, who was once seen winking to Scindia in the Lok Sabha with Prime Minister Narendra Modi making much of that episode, reacted to Scindia's departure from the party while speaking to reporters in the Parliament corridors on Wednesday.
