Adhir Says PM Blind To Plight Of Manipur People, Compares Him With Fugitive Nirav Modi
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that because of the pressure brought to bear on PM Modi by the Opposition alliance that he finally showed up in the Parliament.
New Delhi: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday drew a parallel between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the epic Mahabharat saying he was blind to the plight of the people of the northeast state in the same way as “Dhritrashtra during Droupadi’s vastra haran”. He also compared PM Modi with fugitive businessman Nirav Modi. He added that because of the pressure brought to bear on PM Modi by the Opposition alliance that he finally showed up in the Parliament.
"The power of no-confidence motion has brought the Prime Minister in the Parliament today. None of us were thinking about this no-confidence motion. We were only demanding that PM Modi should come to the Parliament and speak on the Manipur issue. We were not demanding any BJP member to come to the Parliament, we were only demanding our PM to come," Chowdhury said.

The Congress leader further said that the issue of Manipur could no longer be confined to any state as it has "already assumed a global dimension."
"That is why Prime Minister's intervention is indispensable. That was our argument," he added.
During the ongoing debate on the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, taking a jibe at the 'Garibi Hatao' slogan of the Congress government headed by Indira Gandhi, asked whether poverty was actually removed.
“PM Modi has changed this completely. There is a transformation in our governance. We believe in empowering all and appeasement of none,” Sitharaman said.
