Lakhimpur Kheri Case: Court Rejects Bail Pleas Of Accused Ashish Mishra, Two Others

Four farmers were allegedly crushed by an SUV car at Tikunia in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, when they were returning from an event protesting against agricultural laws.

New Delhi: The District and Sessions Judge rejected the bail application of Union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The court also refused to grant bail to the other two accused.

The hearing on the bail application of the three accused reportedly started at 11 am in the District and Sessions Court during which the prosecution submitted case diary, forensic and ballistic reports of four firearms obtained from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the statements of 60 eyewitnesses to establish the involvement of the accused in the violence.

For the unversed, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. A case was registered against many people including Ashish under relevant sections. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to probe the violence had identified and arrested 12 other accused in the case. All the 13 accused including Ashish Mishra alias Monu are currently in judicial custody.

After several days of violence, Ashish Mishra alias Monu was arrested on October 9. He was later sent to jail in judicial custody by the court. The police had given notice to Ashish to appear twice. After the second notice, Ashish appeared before the police.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya and Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni were present in the program. The farmers allege that the SUV belonged to Ajay Mishra Teni and his son Ashish Mishra was in it.  Ashish Mishra has been arrested and the farmers are now demanding resignation of the Union Minister as he is also an accused in the case.
