Solider Killed, 3 Others Missing As Avalanche Hits Army Contingent At Mount Kun In Ladakh
Ladakh News: One army jawan died while three others went missing during a landslide that occurred on October 8 during routine training activities in the vicinity of Mount Kun.
One soldier lost his life while three others remain missing following an avalanche near Mount Kun in Ladakh. This incident occurred on Monday and has prompted a large-scale search and rescue operation. Defence sources revealed that the mishap transpired on October 8 during routine training activities in the vicinity of Mount Kun. Approximately 40 army personnel, comprising members of the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) and the Army Adventure Wing, were participating in these exercises.
"These exercises are standard practice during this season, aiming to provide realistic mountaineering training for HAWS participants as part of the 'Train the Trainer' concept," the sources said.
However, on October 8, during their training ascent, the group encountered an unexpected avalanche. Four dedicated personnel found themselves trapped beneath the snow. Immediate rescue operations were launched and remain ongoing.
One soldier lost his life in this incident and his mortal remains have been successfully recovered as part of a daring search operation that continues relentlessly.
The Army is working tirelessly to locate and recover the remaining three soldiers who are still trapped beneath the massive snow deposit.
"Despite inclement weather and heavy snow pile up, search and rescue operations continue to locate and recover others trapped under the massive snow deposit," sources added.
