Kolkata Doctor Death: OPDs To Remain Shut As Medics To Continue Nationwide Strike After Failed Talks— Updates

Kolkata doctor death: According to the post-mortem report, the victim bled from eyes as the accused hit her so hard that her glasses broke and the shards pierced the eyes.

The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) will continue its nationwide indefinite strike on Tuesday to protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata after their meeting with officials of the Union health ministry failed to bring out any resolution.

Resident doctors of government hospitals across the country started an indefinite strike on Monday to protest the sexual assault and murder of a postgraduate medical student at the state-run RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, paralyzing elective services including OPDs and non-emergency services.

  • On Monday, FORDA announced the continuation of its strike as "no concrete resolution was reached" during a discussion with the officials of the health ministry, said the medics' body in a statement.

  • FORDA President Aviral Mathur said that emergency services will continue to operate despite the continuation of the strike by resident doctors.
  • A team of the National Commission for Women arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in connection with the case.
  • Four junior doctors who had dinner with the victim have been summoned again by the police. Head of Department, Assistant Super, male-female nurses, group-D staff and security members have also been summoned by the Kolkata police at their headquarters, reported ANI.
  • According to the post-mortem report, the accused had struck the victim that the glasses of her spectacles shattered and shards pierced her eyes, reported NDTV.
  • The wounds were inflicted on the trainee doctor while she was still alive and injuries on her private parts indicated that she was raped, the post-mortem report said.
  • The accused had killed the trainee doctor by throttling and smothering her, as per the post-mortem report, adding that the time of death was between 3 and 5 am on Friday.
