TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee Compares Sita’s Abduction With Hathras Rape Case, BJP Fires Back

The controversy sparked after Kalyan Banerjee, TMC MP while addressing a public rally in Howrah referring to the Hathras rape case in Uttar Pradesh said, "Sita was lucky to be abducted by Ravana."

In a fresh face-off between Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, a complaint has been filed against TMC MP after he compared Sita’s abduction with Hathras rape case. The controversy sparked after Kalyan Banerjee, TMC MP, while addressing a public rally in Howrah referring to the Hathras rape case in Uttar Pradesh said, "Sita was lucky to be abducted by Ravan." “Sita told Ram that had she been taken by his (Ravan) chele (disciples), she would have faced a similar fate as the rape victim of Hathras did,” he said. Following Banerjee’s comments Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), youth wing of BJP, member Ashish Jaiswal filed a complaint against him. “Words used by Kalyan Banerjee about ‘Sita Maa’ have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Thus, I went and complained. Bengalis are hurt by what Kalyan Banerjee said. He also hurt the members of the BJP. I want him to apologise,” Ashish Jaiswal said. "Can he dare to say these words for any other religion?" he asked. "As far state the statement made by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee regarding Sita-Maa is concerned, it is absolutely a derogatory statement. He has offended the sentiment of crores of Hindus across the length and breadth of this country. I see this as a typical appeasement policy of Mamata Banerjee," Patra added. “Know This Man”, Tweets Tathagata Roy Former Governor Of Meghalaya Fuming with the comments of the TMC MP, BJP leader and former Governor of Meghalaya Tathagata Roy, shared the video clip on Twitter and wrote, “Know this man?” Kalyan Banerjee Comes With A History Of Controversial Comments   Known for his fiery speeches, this is not the first time the TMC MP has landed into a controversy. In one instance, Banerjee compared Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman with a “venomous snake” for her way of handling the economy. "Just like a venomous snake kills a human being, people of the country are dying one by one owing to Nirmala Sitharaman who has shattered the country's economy," he said.
