Kerala Shocker: 5 Killed, 7 Injured After Lorry Runs Over Sleeping Pedestrians In Thrissur

Five people lost their lives after a lorry ran over them while they were sleeping on the roadside near Nattika in Thrissur on Tuesday. Seven others who suffered injuries have been taken to Thrissur Medical College for treatment. Following the incident, Transport Minister Ganesh ordered an investigation into the mishap.
According to Nattika Police, the accident occurred in the early hours, leaving the community in shock. "Five people were killed near Nattika in Thrissur after a lorry ran over them while they were sleeping on the roadside. The seriously injured were shifted to a hospital," said a police official.
The deceased include two men, woman and two children.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, while medical teams are attending to the injured at a nearby hospital. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical.
"Both of them were drunk," a senior police officer informed reporters. He said that they are now kept in custody.
Thrissur City Police Commissioner R. Ilango, who inspected the accident site, stated that a case has been registered under the non-bailable provision of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He added that the offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment.
Another officer noted that eyewitnesses reported the vehicle was speeding, and the driver and cleaner attempted to flee after the accident. "They were apprehended by locals and handed over to the police," the officer said, as per the report.
