According to authorities, the arrested individuals had been working at various locations under the false identity of migrant workers from West Bengal, as reported by PTI. A detailed interrogation is underway to gather more information about their entry into the country and potential links to illegal networks, a senior police official confirmed.
These arrests were part of 'Operation Clean,' a special initiative launched by Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena following the apprehension of 28-year-old Thaslima Begum two weeks ago. The operation aims to crack down on illegal immigrants and those aiding them in Kerala.
The police have arrested 35 persons till now.
Earlier, as part of the same operation, two Bangladeshi women—Rubina (20) from Barisal and Kulsum Akhtar (23) from Shaktipur—were arrested by the Kodanad police. Fake Aadhaar cards were recovered from them, and investigations revealed that they had entered Kerala in February 2024 after crossing the border into West Bengal. They allegedly acquired Aadhaar cards through an agent. Police are currently working to identify individuals who facilitated their stay and provided them with fake documents.
Meanwhile, the police have also decided to investigate in West Bengal for tracing agents who help with illegal border crossings.
