7 Kerala Districts Under Yellow Alert Amid Heavy Rain, Schools Shut In Kuttanad

Kerala Weather Updates: The IMD forecasts heavy rain and thunderstorms for Kerala and Lakshadweep, issuing a yellow alert for seven districts on June 4.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast consistent rainfall and thunderstorms across Kerala and the Lakshadweep Islands over the next five days. Thiruvananthapuram is expected to experience overcast skies with intermittent rain and thunder during this period.

A yellow alert has been issued for seven districts on June 4—Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod—indicating the likelihood of heavy downpours. Additionally, strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph are expected to sweep across Kerala on June 3 and 4. The IMD has cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to unsafe marine conditions.

Education Disrupted In Alappuzha

In response to widespread waterlogging caused by heavy rains, the Alappuzha District Collector has announced a holiday for schools in Kuttanad taluk and Thekkekkara Government LP School in Pallippad village under Karthikappally taluk on Wednesday.

Schools being used as relief camps will also remain closed though examinations scheduled for the day will continue as planned.

Thrissur On Alert For Possible Dam Release

In Thrissur district, officials are closely monitoring the water levels at Poomala Dam, reported Manorama. As a precautionary measure, an alert has been issued about the potential opening of the dam shutters. District Collector Arjun Pandian has urged residents near the Malavayi stream to remain cautious and follow safety advisories.
