Kerala: 19-Year-Old Girl Dies After Assault By Boyfriend In Chottanikkara, Accused Held

On the day of the incident, the accused visited the victim’s home on the night of January 26, where an altercation took place.

A 19-year-old girl, who was sexually abused and brutally assaulted by her boyfriend at her residence in Chottanikkara earlier this week, succumbed to her injuries on Friday, police told PTI. The victim was found in a severely injured state at her home recently and was rushed to a private hospital, where she remained on ventilator support until her death in the afternoon.

"She died in the afternoon," a police officer said, as per the agency report. It may be noted that the victim was a POCSO case survivor.

The accused, a man in his twenties, was arrested on Wednesday. Initially, a case was registered against him under sections related to physical assault and sexual abuse based on a complaint by the victim’s mother. However, police officials stated that the charges may now be upgraded to murder following the inquest, postmortem, and medical reports.

On the day of the incident, the accused visited the victim’s home on the night of January 26, where an altercation took place. Later, the victim was discovered with severe injuries, including a knot mark on her neck, raising concerns of an attempted strangulation. She was also found partially stripped, and authorities suspect she may have been lying unconscious for several hours before being found.

After the arrest, Anoop confessed to physically assaulting the woman, stating that her suicide attempt was a result of the distress caused by the attack, as per a report on The News Minute. Medical examinations revealed severe brain damage, though reports confirmed that no sexual assault had occurred.

The surveillance footage reportedly captured the suspect being dropped off near the victim’s residence on Saturday night. Meanwhile, local residents identified him from the CCTV footage and linked him to previous disturbances in the neighbourhood.
