Kashmir unrest: Arun Jaitley, Bipin Rawat to review security in Srinagar today

New Delhi: Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and General Bipin Rawat will hold security situation review meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday. Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling in residential areas of Lam Pukharni in Nowshera sector on Tuesday. Defence Minister will take stock of counter-terror operations in the Valley. Interestingly, there is soaring turbulence in the valley beside the steady stream of ceasefire violations. Jaitley is visiting Srinagar on Wednesday while the Army Chief is already in the valley. The visit comes in the wake of beheading of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani Army. The incident happened in Poonch district earlier this month which was termed "barbaric" by India. For the state government as well as the Centre, the spree in infiltration attempts, ceasefire violation, cross-border shelling along with the Valley's internal crisis has turned into a major crisis. Arun Jaitley who also holds the finance portfolio, will be in Srinagar primarily for the two-day meeting of the GST Council starting from Thursday.
