Both children, students of the same school and residents of the same neighborhood, reportedly began arguing while playing.

Fight Started Over A Packet Of Chips

According to police, the disagreement escalated when the younger boy allegedly fetched a knife and stabbed the older student in the abdomen, reported NDTV.

The victim’s mother, along with the accused’s parents, rushed him to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, reported India Today.

Authorities have confirmed that the two boys had no history of conflict, and preliminary inquiries suggest the attack was not premeditated. Investigators are collecting witness statements from locals to piece together what led to the fatal act.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar called the incident “deeply concerning,” particularly given the young age of the accused, as per a report on The Hindustan Times. He emphasised the seriousness with which the case is being handled and confirmed that the boy has been placed in a juvenile justice home.

Officials are also exploring whether any negligence may have contributed to the tragedy, and have pledged to follow all due legal procedures as the investigation continues.
