KANPUR: A 59-year-old man was drowned after his room flooded with rainwater on Monday night. Harishchandra, who was a resident of Bajariya area in Kanpur, was asleep when rainwater rushed into his room after a heavy downpour lashed the city. Harishchandra was survived by his wife, son and two daughters. When the family members, who were sleeping at first floor, woke up in morning they found Harishchandra's body floating in water. Upon seeing this, the family informed the police, which took Harishchandra to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Sheila, daughter of the deceased, said her father was taken ill and staying on the ground floor. Rajesh, Harishchandra's brother, blamed it on the "negligence of" the municipal corporation, due to which the entire area was filled with rainwater. Twelve people have been killed and seven others injured in rain-related incidents in different parts of Uttar Pradesh during the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 92. According to latest reports, three people were killed in Kanpur Dehat, two in Hathras and one each in Chitrakoot, Auraiya, Allahabad, Unnao, Amethi, Jaunpur and Fatehpur.
