MP: Political Slugfest Over Kamal Nath's 'Item' Jibe; CM Shivraj To Observe 'Maun Vrat' Today, Scindia Says 'Congress Never Respects Women'

Chief Minister Shivaj Singh Chauhan said that Nath’s comment is an insult to all the daughters and sisters of Madhya Pradesh. Chauhan will sit on a silent protest from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday.

New Delhi: A massive political slugfest has been triggered in Madhya Pradesh over former CM Kamal Nath’s derogatory remark at Imarti Devi the former Congress leader who joined BJP along with Scindia camp. Bharatiya Janata Party has trained its guns at Nath over his objectionable comment at Imarti Devi, where he called her an “item.” Also Read: BJP Files Complaint Against Kamal Nath For Allegedly Using Derogatory Terms For Female Leader Imarti Devi Chief Minister Shivaj Singh Chauhan said that Nath’s comment is an insult to all the daughters and sisters of Madhya Pradesh. Chauhan will sit on a silent protest from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday. “It's an insult to not only Imarti Devi but also to MP's daughters/sisters. Kamal Nath is using objectionable words for a daughter who served Congress for so long,” Shivraj said. “It's a country where Mahabharat took place when Draupadi was disrespected. People won't tolerate. Shame on him,” he said. On Sunday, during the run-up to assembly by-polls, Nath had termed Imarti Devi as an “item.” “Our candidate is not like her... what's her name? (people shout Imarti Devi, who is former State Minister) You know her better and should have warned me earlier... ye kya item hai,” former Madhya Pradesh CM said. Jyotiraditya Scindia launched an attack at the Congress veteran and said that this is Congress's principle. “First, Digvijay Singh had said something about Congress leader Meenakshi Natrajan which I don't remember, now Kamal Nath called BJP's Imarti Devi an 'item' while Ajay Singh called her 'Jalebi'. Congress never respect women,” he said. Meanwhile, Imrati Devi hit back at the Congress party and demanded sacking of Nath. She said “such people (former CM Kamal Nath) have no right to stay in Madhya Pradesh...I demand Congress president Sonia Gandhi to remove him from the party. She is also a woman and a mother, will she tolerate if anybody will say something like this about her daughter.”
