Jyotiraditya Scindia launches 72-hour-long 'satyagraha' against MP Government

BHOPAL: In a move which is aimed at countering Madhya Pradesh Government's 'peace fast', Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced a 72-hour-long 'satyagraha' from June 14 in Bhopal. It is now satyagraha vs satyagraha in the state which has seen raging farmers protests in past one week. Scindia, MP from Guna constituency of Madhya Pradesh will protest against the 'anti-farmer policies' of the BJP government in the state. The Congress leader will reach Indore on June 12 and meet the injured farmers who are undergoing treatment at Indore's MY Hospital. Scindia, Congress' chief whip in Lok Sabha, will also visit Mandsaur on June 13 to meet the family members of the six farmers killed in police firing on Tuesday. "Scindia will sit on a 72-hour long 'satyagraha' from 3 pm on June 14 at T T Nagar Dussehra Maidan in support of the farmers, who are holding protests across the state," Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said. "He will visit the villages, including Badwant, Lodh, Khanduriya Kachan, Thakarawad, Chillod Pipliya (all in Mandsaur district), Barkheda Punch and Nayakheda (both in Neemuch district) to meet the family members of those killed in police firing," Chaturvedi added. Meanwhile, CM Chouhan continues with his 'peace fast' for the second day at Dussehra Maidan, Bhopal, however, source say he may end his fast by afternoon on Sunday. During his fast, he also met kin of farmers killed in agitation and addressed their grievances. Earlier, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was thwarted from visiting the violence-hit district. Gandhi who was also accompanied by senior party leaders Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath was arrested when he tried to force his way into Mandsaur. However, he was later released on bail.
