'BJP Conducted Raids To...,' Says Kharge, Questions Judiciary’s Independence At Congress Plenary Session

The Congress party said that there will be 56 points in the political resolution and one of them is on the independence of the judiciary.

New Delhi: The second day of the Congress party's 85th plenary session is underway in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Addressing the session, party President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) tried to stop the session by raiding Congress workers' residences.

He said, as quoted by ANI, "To stop this Plenary Session, BJP conducted a raid on party workers' residents. They arrested our workers. But we faced them and held this session."

Kharge further slammed the BJP and accused the saffron party of conspiring to disrupt the country's democracy. He said, "It seems there is a conspiracy to disrupt the country's democracy by BJP, but Congress trying to unite India."

Talking about the success of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, Kharge said, "We will face all challenges in the country. Bharat Jodo yatra was like sunshine for the nation. Thousands joined hands with Rahul Gandhi & proved that Congress is still in their hearts. Rahul inspired youth."

Calling other parties for to come together, Kharge said, as quoted by PTI, "We once again look forward to aligning with like-minded parties to defeat BJP. We are ready to make sacrifices."

"Congress only party that can provide stable government to country," Kharge further added.

The party has promised to pass an Anti-Discrimination Law to prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, gender or language in the supply of goods and services. The party will propose legislation against Hate Crimes.

There will be 56 points in the political resolution. An important point in this is on the judiciary.

It says that the judiciary is constantly threatened by direct and indirect measures which create apprehensions in their mind. The party said that unfortunately, the Law Minister himself is leading the blatant attack on the judiciary. Congress has also promised that the independence and integrity of the judiciary will be maintained and protected at all costs.

Earlier PTI reported that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi will address leaders, and political, economic and international affairs resolutions will be deliberated upon at the party's 85th plenary session on Saturday.

At the start of the second day of the session, the Congress president will release a book and party general secretaries will submit their respective reports, following which Kharge will address the gathering. A "thanksgiving" statement for former Congress president Sonia Gandhi will also be read out at the session following which she will deliver her address.

According to the programme shared by the grand old party, the delegates will then deliberate upon the political, economic and international affairs resolutions, PTI reported.

On the first day of the three-day conclave, the Congress steering committee unanimously decided not to hold elections to the CWC and authorised the party chief to nominate its members. The decision was taken at the Kharge-led steering committee meeting which members of the Gandhi family skipped.
