Jodhpur Violence: Police Deployment Stepped Up, 97 People Taken Into Custody So Far

Rajasthan state president of Bharatiya Janata Party Satish Poonia has urged Governor Kalraj Mishra to initiate an investigation into the incidents of communal violence in Jodhpur.

New Delhi: A day after violence broke out between two communities in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, police have arrested 97 people related to the incident. There is also a huge presence of police force across all districts in the state, reported news agency ANI.

The state administration does not want to take any chance and has therefore deputed high-level police officers at critical places. Also strict adherence to curfew in Jodhpur is being enforced.

"Curfew is being strictly enforced in the district. Higher-level officers have been deployed here. Every small incident occurring in the district is being monitored. A total of 97 people have been arrested in connection with incidents that have occurred in Jodhpur," said Hawa Singh Ghumaria, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), as reported by ANI.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan state president of Bharatiya Janata Party Satish Poonia has urged Governor Kalraj Mishra to initiate an investigation into the incidents of communal violence in Jodhpur. He also requested the Governor to instruct the administration to maintain strict law and order in the state.

"I humbly request you (Governor) that a fair investigation should be conducted into the incidents and taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, please pass on the necessary instruction to the state government so that peace can be established in the state and the communal incident doesn't get repeated," Poonia's letter to the Governor read, reported ANI.

On Monday night, clashes erupted between two communities after some miscreants replaced a religious flag of one of the community at Balmukand Bissa at the Jalori Gate intersection circle in Jodhpur. The move was objected by the other community, which resulted in violence.

Clashes were again reported Tuesday morning after which the district administration imposed curfew in several areas of the city till Wednesday midnight. Some of the areas where curfew has been imposed are Udai Mandir, Pratap Nagar, Nagori Gate, Khanda Phalsa, Soor Sagar, Dev Nagar and Sardarpura.
