On Sunday, two groups of students clashed at the Jawaharlal Nehru University's Kaveri Hostel allegedly over serving of non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess.
New Delhi: Two days after violence erupted in the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus between students over issue of type of food being served in the mess, Union Ministry of Education Tuesday sought a detailed report that led to the brawl, reported news agency ANI.
On Sunday, two groups of students, left-wing student union and RSS-linked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), clashed at the Jawaharlal Nehru University's Kaveri Hostel allegedly over serving of non-vegetarian food in the hostel mess on Ram Navami. Six students were injured in the violence.
The Delhi Police Monday lodged a complaint against unknown students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over the violence in the university.
“We received a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF & AISA early this morning against unknown ABVP students. Accordingly, we lodged an FIR under Sec -323, 341, 509, 506, 34 IPC. Further probe is on to collect evidence & identify culprits,” said the Delhi Police.
Later in the day, ABVP students lodged complaints at the Vasant Kunj Police Station, against unidentified students associated with the Jawaharlal Nehru Students' Union (JNUSU), Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), All India Students' Association and Students' Federation of India (SFI), seeking police action, reported ANI.
In their complaint the ABVP has alleged that 'Left' students tried to disrupt the Ram Navami Pooja being held at the Kaveri hostel of the campus. They also said that students affiliated with the Left groups hurled stones at them and used abuse language towards women, reported ANI.
