Section 144 In Ranchi Tomorrow As Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Set To Appear Before ED Sleuths

Jharkhand News: Section 144 will be enforced in Ranchi from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday as Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will be quizzed by ED sleuths at his official residence.

In a move to maintain law and order, Section 144 will be enforced in Ranchi from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday after the prohibitory order was imposed at important locations including the Chief Minister's residence, Rajbhavan, and the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) office on Tuesday. The Tuesday order highlighted concerns about potential protests, demonstrations, rallies, and other activities by various organisations and parties, raising the specter of disruptions to government operations, traffic, and public peace.

The order comes as Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a letter to the ED, announced his readiness to record his statement on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at his residence. However, he expressed reservations about the timing, characterising the inquiry as "politically motivated" to disrupt his government's functioning.

After the BJP accused him of absconding on Tuesday, the Jharkhand Chief Minister told media persons, "I reside in your hearts", news agency PTI reported. He further chaired a meeting of party legislators at Bapu Vatika, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.

"We all are committed to following the footsteps and ideologies of the Father of the Nation. We are proud that such people were born among us and gave us guidance," Soren remarked during the meeting, as per PTI.

Addressing the Enforcement Directorate's scheduled questioning, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey commented, "The Jharkhand CM has the blessings of the people; he will be unharmed. We are formulating strategies to face the tyrants," without providing further details.

Meanwhile, the ED conducted a search at the residence of the JMM leader in south Delhi, seizing Rs 36 lakh, an SUV, and incriminating documents during the almost 13-hour operation, PTI reported citing official sources.
