On Thursday a group of people in Taatpatti Bakhal area of Indore attacked health care workers who had arrived there to locate people infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The health team consisted of five persons including two female doctors. Out of the eight people who had attacked the officials, four were arrested and the National Security Act (NSA) was slapped against them. Now one of the accused, Javed Khan has tested positive for Coronavirus after the group was tested in the Central Jail in Jabalpur where they are being held. This has created a situation of panic and all eight police personnel who had brought them from Indore to Jabalpur have also been quarantined. The coronavirus is known to spread when an infected person speaks, coughs or sneezes or through contaminated surfaces which is why it is easy for it to spread in a crowded space. An infected person might not be showing symptoms and would still be spreading the virus unknowingly. The video of the attack which shows medical staff in PPE running away from a mob who were attacking with sticks had gone viral and generated a national outcry. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had tweeted, "the human rights are for humans." Troublemakers will be dealt with firmly. "This is not just a tweet. It is a warning. All my doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, ANM, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and urban bodyworkers fighting the war against COVID-19, you continue your fight against Corona, your complete security. The responsibility is mine! I bow to your devotion," he said. Indore is one of the coronavirus hotspots in Madhya Pradesh and according to reports certain areas are recording a larger number of deaths. According to doctors the main reason for this is that people are not reporting their illness and are hiding their symptoms. In fact, very few are even reaching hospitals and they reach out to health officials only if the conditions have completely deteriorated which makes it difficult to provide proper treatment.
