Jammu and Kashmir: Six terrorists killed in Shopian encounter, mobile internet services suspended; operation underway
Shopian encounter: Following the gunfight between the security personnel and the militants, the mobile internet services have been suspended in the area.
Shopian encounter: Six terrorists have been neutralised in the encounter with security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday. In a big victory for the Indian jawans, twelve terrorists have been killed in 48 hours. Following the gunfight between the security personnel and the militants, the mobile internet services have been suspended in the area. Besides, four weapons have reportedly been received, all AK series rifle. The operation is over now.
Those killed in the encounter include LeT distt commander Mushtaq Mir, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen distt commander abbas, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen deputy district commander Waseem Wagay alias Saifullah, Omar Majeed Ganai, Khalid Farooq alias Talha and one probably pakistani militant.
As per police Hizb-ul-Mujahideen District commander, Abbas headed the group which sluaghtered an alleged informer last week. He was wanted in the killing of Lt Omar Fayaz, Adv Imtitaz Khan and 4 escort personnel of Dy SP Shopian besides other killings. One soldier of 34RR has been injured in the encounter, but no official confirmation of identity till now.
As per the report by PTI, an official said that security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific information about the presence of militants there. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated, he said.
