J-K LG Sinha Stresses Need For 'Meticulous' Counter-Terrorism Ops As Army Chief Chairs High-Level Security Review

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi convened security review meetings in response to increased terrorism and cross-border infiltrations.

In response to escalating terror activities and cross-border infiltrations, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi convened consecutive high-level security review meetings on Saturday. The discussions, held at the Raj Bhawan and the police headquarters, were attended by the director generals of the BSF, CRPF, and J&K Police, along with heads of intelligence agencies and other senior security officials.

General Dwivedi led an over-hour-long meeting at the police headquarters, followed by a second session at the Raj Bhawan, news agency PTI reported. This latter meeting, chaired by LG Sinha, took place upon his return from Srinagar. During the session, Sinha, emphasised the need for "meticulous and well-planned counter-terrorism operations" with enhanced synergy among all agencies to eliminate terrorists and their supporters. "We must launch operations with greater coordination to address the threat effectively," the LG stated, as quoted by PTI.

Sinha also instructed that the security grid be fortified further to ensure zero cross-border infiltration. This meeting follows recent terror attacks that resulted in the deaths of nine army personnel, including a captain, in the Kathua and Doda forests on July 8 and July 15.

Sharing an update on the high-level meeting, the Army posted on X, "#GeneralUpendraDwivedi #COAS met Shri Manoj Sinha Hon'ble LG J&K today and deliberated on the prevailing #Security dynamics in the region. #COAS assured the Hon'ble LG J&K on a #Synergetic approach by Armed Forces and Security Agencies to tackle the present situation and maintain #Peace and #Stability in the region."

"#GeneralUpendraDwivedi #COAS also chaired a high level ‘Joint Security Review Meeting’ at #Jammu focusing on thwarting the malevolent design of terrorists & anti national elements in the region. All stakeholders from #Security Forces & #Intelligence Agencies, operating in UT of J&K, attended the same," it added.

Army Chief Dwivedi’s Second Jammu Visit Within 3 Weeks

General Dwivedi’s visit to Jammu, his second in less than three weeks since assuming the role of Army Chief on June 30, highlights the urgent need to address terrorism in the region. On July 16, the army reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, noting ongoing joint operations with the Jammu and Kashmir Police to target foreign terrorists infiltrating from across the border and operating in the upper reaches of the Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar districts. Earlier, on July 3, the Army Chief had visited the border district of Poonch and reviewed the security situation in Jammu.
