J&K Police Bust Fake SIM Cards Racket In Budgam, 3 Arrested

According to the spokesperson, three people were arrested during the inquiry: Iqbal Hussain Khanday, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat, and Ghulam Hassan Dar.

NewDelhi: Officials stated on Thursday that police in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, foiled a phoney SIM card ring by detaining three people, news agency PTI reported.

Police opened an investigation after obtaining specific evidence that a group of PoS agents were reportedly defrauding individuals by falsifying their credentials to get SIM cards for their personal interests or selling such cards for criminal purposes, according to a police spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, three people were arrested during the inquiry: Iqbal Hussain Khanday, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat, and Ghulam Hassan Dar, PTI reported.

According to him, early investigations indicated that the accused worked as retail sellers and issued SIM cards under bogus identities using images of their agents, family members, and themselves.

“Also, as a supporting identification document, some of the accused have used a forged seal of J&K Bank Branch Kremshore to prepare fake bank passbooks,” he was quoted by PTI in its report.

A Special Investigation Team led by ASP Budgam Gowhar Ahmad has been formed to properly probe the matter in order to discover the complete module, he added, PTI reported.
