J&K: NIA Arrests Key Accused JeM Worker In Sunjwan Terror Attack Case

The accused, Abid Ahmad Mir, a resident of Putrigam in south Kashmir's Pulwama, is reportedly an overground worker of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terror organisation.

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a person who is said to be the key accused in the Sunjwan terror attack case that happened in April on the outskirts of Jammu, an official spokesperson said on Thursday, news agency PTI reported. The arrested person, Abid Ahmad Mir, a resident of Putrigam in south Kashmir's Pulwama, is reportedly an overground worker of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terror organisation.

According to the PTI report, NIA said that Mir was a close aid of accused Bilal Ahmed Wagay, who has been earlier nabbed in connection to the case.

Mir was also in touch with Pakistan-based handlers of the JeM, the National Investigation Agency added.

The spokesperson further said that Mir had knowingly and voluntarily extended support to the other accused in the commission of the instant crime.

It is to be noted that two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu on April 22, after they launched an attack on CISF personnel onboard a bus, during the early morning shift-change of the force at a checkpost.

Notably, this terror attack came two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Samba, in Jammu region of the Union Territory.

As per reports, the 'fidayeen' or suicide bombers sprayed a volley to bullets in a 'burst fire' mode, from their assualt weapons. They even lobbed grenades at the security personnel at the picket that was deployed near the Chaddha camp in the Sunjwan area of the district where the army also has a large installation.

The case was initially registered in the Bahu Fort police station, Jammu, and was later on taken over by the NIA.
