Sultana, who took oath just two ago, was allotted the departments of water supply and sanitation, social security, women and child development and printing and stationery.

Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mohammad Mustafa, the husband of Sultana, welcomed his wife’s decision.

“SO PROUD OF MY WIFE RAZIA SULTANA FOR HER PRINCIPLED DECISION TO RESIGN IN THE BEST INTEREST OF CONG AND ITS LEADERSHIP, ON PARTICULAR RAHUL GANDHI, OUR BENEFACTOR,” he tweeted and shared the resignation letter written by his wife to the Punjab Chief Minister.

Congress leader Yoginder Dhingra resigned as the general secretary of the state party unit, while Gulzar Inder Chahal resigned as the treasurer of Punjab Congress.

Gautam Seth also stepped down as the general secretary (in-charge training) of Punjab Congress following Sidhu’s resignation, ANI reported.

In another surprising turn in Punjab politics, Sidhu earlier in the day resigned as the state Congress chief.

Sidhu, who took to Twitter to make the announcement, said that he will continue to serve the Congress.

Sidhu also shared the resignation letter that he had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in which he mentioned that he can never compromise with Punjab's future and agenda.

“The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

This came amid speculations of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh leaving for Delhi with sources suggesting that he is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda in the national capital.
