'Can Never Compromise...': Navjot Singh Sidhu Resigns From Punjab PCC Chief Post

Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from the position of Punjab Congress Committee Chief two months after his appointment.

New Delhi: Punjab has again witnessed another surprising turn in politics as Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from the position of Punjab Congress Committee Chief. Sidhu submitted the resignation letter to Congress head Sonia Gandhi.

Sidhu has mentioned in his resignation letter that he can never compromise with Punjab's future and agenda for the welfare of Congress. Sidhu has also mentioned that he will continue to serve the Congress party.

"The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress," Navjot Sidhu wrote in his resignation letter.

This comes amid speculations of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh leaving for Delhi and sources have suggested that he is likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda.

However, Raveen Thukral, Media Advisor to Capt Amarinder Singh has denied the reports of Singh meeting the BJP leaders and said. "Too much being read into Cap Amarinder Singh's visit to Delhi. He’s on a personal visit, during which he’ll meet some friends & also vacate Kapurthala house for the new CM. No need for any unnecessary speculation."

This will be Captain Singh's first visit to the national capital after he resigned on 18 September.

Amarinder Singh reacted on Sidhu's resignation and said, "I told you so…he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab."

Sidhu was appointed as Punjab Congress Committee Chief two months ago after a slew of meetings with the Congress high command in Delhi and a huge tussle with Capt Amarinder Singh which eventually led to the latter's resignation for the CM position.

The series of events in Punjab Congress can lead to a setback for the party in the upcoming 2022 assembly elections.
