‘Insulting Hindu Society’: Himanta Attacks Gaurav, Demands Proof Of Hindu Involvement In Dhubri Beef Case
Sarma demanded proof from Gaurav Gogoi and asserted that no Hindu was involved in the throwing of suspected beef at two temples in Dhubri and Goalpara districts.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday asked state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi to submit proof concrete proof before accusing Hindus of being behind recent incidents of communal unrest and "insulting" the community.
Speaking to reporters in North Lakhimpur, Sarma strongly condemned what he described as baseless allegations and accused the Congress of continuing its legacy of “appeasement politics.”
The BJP leader’s remarks come in response to a statement by Gogoi, who had alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was fanning communal sentiments ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
Sarma asserted that no Hindu was involved in the throwing of suspected beef at two temples in Dhubri and Goalpara districts.
Dismissing the claims, the Assam CM stressed that such acts were not committed by Hindus. “For someone to imagine and claim that a Hindu person can place a cow head in a temple, his entire thinking must be so narrow-minded and blackened,” he said, as reported by news agency PTI.
"If he (Gogoi) has any proof, I appeal to him to submit it to the government before insulting the Hindu society," he added.
He said that the arrests made in connection of the incident mostly belong to the minority community. "All the people arrested for this incident in Lakhipur (Goalpara) and Dhubri are from the minority community. We have not found involvement of any Hindu people," he said.

However, he refrained from sharing details about investigations in other areas, including Guwahati and Hojai, where similar incidents had occurred. According to police, 50 people have been arrested so far in Dhubri and five in Goalpara.
The Chief Minister also claimed that most members of the minority community have denounced the acts. “They do not support such actions and have strongly criticised them,” he added.
Sarma had said that cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several places during Eid on June 8, and that parts of the meat were thrown at places of worship.
On the issue of illegal immigration, Sarma said the maximum infiltrations happened when the state was ruled by Congress for 60 years and the AGP for 10 years. "When did the maximum number of infiltrations happen in Assam? It was from 1967 to 1971. In that period, the Congress was in power," he said.
