New Delhi: As India remembers the bravehearts of the Kargil War who laid down their lives for their motherland, President Droupadi Murmu also paid tribute to the martyrs on Tuesday. She took to Twitter and hailed the valour of the armed forces.

President Murmu said 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is a symbol of extraordinary valour of the armed forces, and people will always be indebted to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect Mother India.

"Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of extraordinary bravery, valour and determination of our armed forces. I bow to all the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect Mother India. The country will always be indebted to them and their family members. Jai Hind," Murmu said in a tweet in Hindi.

The three service chiefs of Indian defence forces also laid down wreaths at the National War Memorial on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Soldiers are paying tribute to the Martyrs of the Kargil War across the country.

"The entire nation is bowing down to the valour and victory of the Indian Army. Through Kargil Vijay Diwas we remember their sacrifices with a sense of gratitude", said General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command, Lt General Upendra Dwivedi in Drass, Kargil

On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of "Operation Vijay", declaring victory after a nearly three-month-long battle on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh.

The day is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory.
