India's Omicron Tally Nears 1900-Mark, Massive Spike In Covid Cases | State-Wise List

India registered a huge surge in Omicron cases with Maharashtra recording 68 cases of the variant while 53 were found infected with the strain in Rajasthan.

New Delhi: India continues to register a huge surge in daily Omicron cases. The country's tally for the highly transmissible strain has reached 1892 with Maharashtra registering most cases. India is also witnessing a sudden spike in Coronavirus infections other than Omicron. The country clocked 37,379 fresh COVID cases, 11,007 recoveries, and 124 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Daily positivity rate: 3.24%

Active cases: 1,71,830

Total recoveries: 3,43,06,414

Death toll: 4,82,017

Total vaccination: 1,46,70,18,464

Maharashtra registers 68 new cases of Omicron

Maharashtra reported 12,160 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday, 283 more than the previous day, and 11 new deaths, while the active tally crossed the 50,000-mark, the state health department said.

With these additions, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 67,12,028, while the death toll increased to 1,41,553, according to a PTI report.

The state recorded 68 fresh cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of such infections to 578, the department said.

According to a health department report, of the 68 Omicron cases, 40 were from Mumbai, 14 from Pune city, four from Nagpur, three each from Pune rural and Panvel city, one each from Kolhapur, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and Satara.

On Sunday, the state had recorded 11,877 COVID-19 cases and nine deaths.

Eleven fresh COVID-19 deaths were reported in the state, whose fatality rate stood at 2.1 per cent, the department said in a bulletin.

Rajasthan reports 53 Omicron cases in last 24 hours

 Rajasthan on Monday reported 550 new cases of coronavirus, which included 53 people who were found infected with the Omicron variant of the infection, according to the state health bulletin.

So far, 174 people have been found infected with the Omicron variant in the state.

A spokesperson of the state Medical and Health Department said that on Monday, 53 cases of Omicron variant were reported in the state. Of these, 43 patients were found in Jaipur, four in Pratapgarh, two in Ajmer, two in Udaipur and one each in Bharatpur and Bhilwara.

550 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Rajasthan, including 414 in Jaipur, 28 in Jodhpur, 26 in Kota, 17 each in Ajmer and Alwar.

At present, 2,084 patients are under treatment in the state.
