India-China Informal Summit Day 2: PM Modi, Xi Jinping To Have Another One-On-One Meeting Today At Fisherman’s Cove
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will again have a one-on-one meeting today that is scheduled to be held for almost 40 minutes. According to reports, the interaction is expected to start at 10 am.
New Delhi: On the second day of the second informal summit between India and China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will engage for a total period of six hours today. The leaders will again have a one-on-one meeting that is scheduled to be held for almost 40 minutes. According to reports, the interaction is expected to start at 10 am, with the two sides are slated to issue their press statements afterward. The delegation-level talks will take place following the one-on-one engagement.
After the informal meeting, both Modi and Xi Jinping will release their respective statements to the media of India and China. As this is an informal summit, so any joint statements by the two countries regarding any agreement will be not issued. The first Informal Summit between the two countries took place in Wuhan in April 2018 and there also the leaders had issued separate statements.
Xi Jinping's schedule for today-
• Chinese President will leave for Mahabalipuram from his hotel at 9 am.
• In about 50 minutes, Jinping will arrive at Fisherman's Hotel at 9.50 am, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is staying. Here the two leaders will hold talks.
• At 10 am, the two leaders will have a round of conversation in the hotel's restaurant.
• There will also be delegation-level interaction between the two countries at Prime Minister Modi's hotel at 10.45 am.
• At 11.45 am, PM Modi will also host a lunch for the Chinese President.
• The Chinese President will leave for Chennai International Airport at 12.45 pm and board the plane at 1.30 pm.

The Second Informal Summit takes forward the 'Wuhan spirit' which was forged during the inaugural meet between the two leaders in the Chinese city in 2018. The Wuhan Informal Summit, held from April 27 to 28 last year, saw the two leaders indulge in candid conversations in a relaxed environment.

On the first day of their informal summit in the historic port town of Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday discussed India’s trade deficit with China and the need to enhance bilateral trade, both by volume and value. They also discussed the common challenge of radicalisation and terrorism that the two countries face.
